Handmade Art Journal - Moth

Photobucket

Yesterday morning while culling a few of my old things, I found two acrylic paintings on paper that I decided to recycle into a journal cover :3

Photobucket

I think I originally made the paintings for some kind of show that I wasn't accepted into. I really don't remember the details. But I do remember that it was an "evolution" theme, and of course the first thing that comes to mind (for me, anyway) was the peppered moth.

(Yeah, I guess it would make more sense to think of bird beaks since that was supposedly the "beginning" of the theory, but the peppered moth case was the first time I'd actually understood what it all meant!)

So it's all very contrasty black and white (just like the real story). Because the paint was so deliberate and thick, wrapping it around a cover board was a bit of a nightmare! It was like wrapping with vinyl or something.

Journal Post 4/2/12

Photobucket

Just passing through today; I haven't done much of anything creative at all. I had my driving test this afternoon and I was so anxious I just couldn't focus on anything else. I'm actually pretty bummed out today because I failed the driving test. I would have forgiven it for stealing an entire day from me if something good had come of it, but there was none.

Photobucket

Sigh.

Photobucket

Apart from being drained emotionally (and financially), I was going through some of my old paintings that drive me crazy (because they're big and annoying) and probably less than half of them bit the dust today :3

The other half... I like them but hate having them. And they're not all in particularly fantastic condition after moving house twice. And some of them are on giant boards instead of canvas. But yeah. What will I do with these? I might post pics of some of them. I totally wouldn't mind doing a video with the colour theory portfolio because it's my favourite thing!

But for today I will be incredibly sad. I mean, it's not a bad situation or anything, but I just wish the testing instructor I got paired up with was even remotely friendly at all. Like. AT ALL. :(

Unnamed Fishes

Photobucket

I don't have a name for this one yet because I just finished and am now in a rush to get ready to go to work (what a drag)!

This is actually an old idea of mine. I was once inspired by a Kompressor song (of all things) about "fish rising up". I sketched it out on my tablet and then put it away.

Photobucket

It was kind of a fantasy moment, an idea that lower classes might take advantage of their numbers and similar interests and use it to become something other than just powerless. It's something we talk about as a society all of the time but never really commit to...

Photobucket

I was reinspired by recent mobs, protests, marches, and of course, internet anonymity. So in this version, the fish are connected. They have more strength now than they did when they weren't connected.

Photobucket

Good luck, fishes!

Handmade Art Journal - Green Roses

Photobucket

Managed to pull together another art journal last night despite being soooo sleeeepy! This "weekend" was more of a social break for me.

Photobucket

I used a marker to draw the roses, which was a bit of a struggle actually. I guess the paper was still a bit wet.

...

What an incredibly dreary, dark, wet day. And it was so sunny and warm when I was at work, oh... the past week????? I know I say this every year, but that sucks. First monday in a while that I have nothing planned. I feel pretty good about that right now :3

I'm taking a bit of a break today because it feels unhealthy to be productive all of the time :D
